Section # 34 Mosta
Today we are taking a tour around the town of Mosta. Before we start the tour, I would like to give credit once again to Alfred and Jasmine Grech. I am still discovering the treasure this couple gave me access to when they offered me to use their videos and photos for my blog. Jasmine's photos are superb and Alfred's choice of music is excellent. This photo video you are going to watch is an example of their professional work which I find very appropriate to illustrate several cultural features of our island. "Thank you and well done, Alfred and Jasmine!"
Mosta is in the central area of Malta but rather to the north. Some historians say that the name Mosta derives from Mustafa, one of the leaders of the Turks in the Great Siege Of Malta of 1565. In the past thirty years or so, many people, especially young couples from the harbor area and from the south chose Mosta as their new residential area. This factor was the result that Mosta grew and developed to a modern town with nice streets, beautiful houses and many shops. So the old and the new features of this town make it a very interesting place to visit.
When one mentions Mosta, one will surely picture in his mind the big rotunda with its wonderful dome. In fact this video starts with a shot of this famous church which is dedicated to St. Mary or Santa Maria as we call it. There are several shots from the dome which represent a bird's eye view of the central areas. After visiting the inside of the church the tour takes us to the main streets with the daily activities which take place. In Mosta there are several chapels and historical sites. We will see photos of traditional feasts which include Christmas, Good Friday and Easter Sunday which are held in this town. Among other places which we will visit, there is the picturesque valley which is called 'Wied il-Ghasel' and the industrial estate' Techno Park'. The last part of the video is dedicated to the feast of Santa Maria which falls on the 15th of August.
